Sunday, October 30, 2011. The incidence of type 2 diabetes has been growing fast in the United States. Some pregnant women develop gestational diabetes during the late stages of pregnancy. This type of condition usually goes away after the baby is born. Gestational diabetes is caused by the changes in hormonal status during pregnancy. There is also a risk of developing type 2 diabetes in later years.
